From our Arieana Notebook: One of the most popular teams of horse and rider ever, Harvey Ellis and Moneyna were famous for his exhibitions of riding her with no bit, no headstall, no head equipment of any kind. Among their many show credits: Champion Mare and Grand Champion, Pomona 1948 (11 years old) and Reserve Champion, All-Arab Show Palm Desert 1953 (16 years old). Timeless, priceless would best describe Moneyna.

From our Arieana Notebook: A treasured mare at the Kellogg Ranch in Pomona, California, Herbert H. Reese in his book The Kellogg Arabians, wrote these words about Monica: "...inherited some of the superior qualities of her grandsire *Abu Zeyd and was just as good a saddle horse. She appeared in the Pasadena Rose Tournament parade in Arabian equipment along with eleven other Arabian horses from the ranch, this being the first time Arabians had been shown in such a manner; considerable publicity resulted, for the costumes were colorful and entirely different from anything else seen in the parade. The horses too had more quality and appeal than the usual parade horse of that time. Monica has bred on very well. Her most noted daughter is Moneyna, a champion by *Raseyn." (Reese, pp. 153-154).

Monica was among eleven (11) Arabians purchased in 1929 by Mr. W.K. Kellogg from Mr. Charles W. Jewett's Arlington Farm near Indianapolis, Indiana. These "Indiana Arabians" were shipped in a Palace Arms railroad car and arrived in Pomona in good condition on August 19th. (Parkinson, p. 144). In later life, Monica passed through the hands of several other owners: in 1939 she was sold to Dr. Leo P. Musser of Oakland, California; in 1945 to T.J. and M.H. Lanigan of San Ardo, California who were the breeders of her last foal born in 1947; in 1947 to Clarence E. Hass, M.D. of Berkeley, California; in 1948 to Stephen Bonovich of Rodeo, California, and in 1949 to Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Waldo of Williams, California. Date of death is noted as August, 1951; cause not stated. (Parkinson, p. 508).
