From our Arieana Notebook: Nefisa, a highly productive mare, was the only daughter of the Crabbet Stud's foundation mare DajaniaNefisa is noted as the line foundress for the "N" Line of Crabbet horses. She held her age very well, was 27 when her last foal arrived, and was still admired by visitors to Crabbet Park Stud well into her 20's. She was overall very upstanding and impressive, tall for an Arabian mare standing at 15.1 hands, and she passed this height on to her foals with many of them reaching 15 hands by the time they were 3 years old. Nefisa was shot September 12, 1913, at age 28, because her teeth gave out. Lady Anne Blunt wrote that "no amount of care could keep her from suffering." At her death, Nefisa was found to have only 17 pairs of ribs.

Although official registration records indicate "Multiple Sires" for Nefisa, we believe her sire to be Hadban and have written her pedigree out accordingly. Her dam Dajania was covered in 1884 by first Proximo and then Hadban, but records have shown that Proximo was infertile. The foaling date of Nefisa coincides with the later breeding date, and Nefisa seemed to clearly show the Hadban touch.

For further information on Nefisa and her foals, highly recommended reading is Carol June Woodbridge Mulder's Imported Foundation Stock of North American Arabian Horses Volume 1 (Revised Edition). Borden Publishing Company, Los Angeles, California. 1993. p. 219-220.
