From our Arieana Notebook: Poka was straight-Davenport, being the breeding result of two horses who either were or descended entirely from horses selected out of Homer Davenport's purebred Arabian Importation of 1906. Bred at the Hingham Stock Farm of Peter Bradley, Poka passed through several owners before she was purchased by W.K. Kellogg in 1929 as part of a group of eleven Arabians from Charles W. Jewett of Indianapolis, Indiana. Sometime in the 1930's, Poka was sold by W.K. Kellogg to Dr. R.M. Van Wart, then she went to H.H. Reese in 1941, to A. Yoder of Corcoran, California in 1942, and lastly in 1947 at age 26 to Alice Payne's Asil Ranch in Chino, California. Her last foal at age 27 was born in 1948; this was the colt Tripoli (by Hanad) bred by Alice Payne's son Pat Payne. Poka, blind and aged by that time, died soon after the colt was weaned.
