From our Arieana Notebook: Straight Davenport. Purchased from the Hingham Stock Farm in September of 1921 by Mr. and Mrs. John Gilbert Winant. Mr. Winant was later to become Governor of New Hampshire and then U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain. In less than a year, the Winants sold most of their Arabians to Morton S. Hawkins of Indiana including Sankirah and Hanad, Sankirah's foal at foot by *Deyr. Due to severe bankruptcy problems, Hawkins was unable to keep most of his horses, and Sankirah ended up in the hands of Charles W. Jewett of Indianapolis, one time mayor of that city. Sankirah was sold and traveled again, this time as one of a group of eleven Arabians purchased in 1929 from Jewett for the W.K. Kellogg Ranch where Sanirah was noted for passing on her good points of conformation: prominent withers, excellent shoulder, and extremely high tail carriage. Sold by Kellogg to E.D. Bayerle of Altadena, California in July 1934, who then sold her to Joseph Hock of Chicago in 1938. Sankirah's last registered foal was born in 1939 to Joseph Hock. Her date of death is not noted.
