We have the sad news to report of the passing of Howard Patton's cherished stallion Aur Sulla on Friday, January 27, 2006. Aur Sulla was 32 years old at the time of his death. Aur Sulla had been especially selected for Howard by Carol Mulder and was purchased in Canada in late Fall 1985. Aur Sulla was one of the last living sons of Aurab and the last living purebred Arabian stallion who would have also been eligible for double registration with the Thoroughbred Jockey Club. Aur Sulla had lived with Howard in Ramona for these past 20 wonderful years and had served him faithfully as friend, companion, Al Najib herd sire, and at public stud. Of international fame as a sire, Aur Sulla's foals now live on three continents and in four countries (Chile, Germany, Canada, and the United States). Renown for his own dynamic movement and kind and gentle ways, Aur Sulla will be very much missed by all who knew him. (Posted 02/01/06) |

Red Letter Day | |||
Bouquets to Sandy Obermeyer! Now on the comeback trail with her CMK stallion OB Blitzkrieg Bey, Sandy completed the 30 mile Fire Mountain LD Endurance Ride on January 21, 2006. As Sandy reports: "OB Blitzkrieg Bey ("Blitz") took VERY good care of his handicapped rider. I am so proud of him! I had my knee replaced exactly one year ago and my third hip replacement almost two years before that after four hip dislocations from two previous failed replacements." Although Sandy says nothing will replace the exhilaration she felt crossing the Tevis finish line on "Blitz's" dam Mariah Bey, we laud and applaud Sandy for her strength, energy, courage, and determination to enter and finish this ride last Saturday. She is a true inspiration for us all as we share in her pride and joy of this pinnacle achievement on her magnificent CMK stallion OB Blitzkrieg Bey! (Posted 01/29/06)

Rosetta in Roses | |||
For those of us that are Rose Parade addicts, here is an excerpt
of a press release on the Cal Poly Pomona website. This parade is broadcast
on television nation-wide,
so if you want to see the Cal-Poly Equestrian entry, be sure to watch
for entry number 67 in the parade lineup (in Southern California I recommend
watching Channel 5) ~ |

Welcome Home Kobi | |||
Sidney Rae Fox of Millennium Equus West has written to us of her delight to have Kobiashi Maru (Gai Danizon x Ha-Silva by Hamdan) finally back home with her after several years away on lease to Minnesota. "Kobi", a CMK Studbook V mare, is celebrating her 20th Birthday this year and is hopefully in foal to Sidney Rae Fox's Ibn Aulrab son, the promising young colt ME Consider Me. This long-hoped-for foal is expected Spring 2006 and will be "Kobi's" first. (Posted 10/2/05)

"I'm sorry to report the death last Friday
of
W. Keith ("Keith") Kellogg II at the age of
98. He was one of few surviving grandchildren of W. K. Kellogg. I don't
have any details right now (such as what services will be held), but I
know Keith had been ailing for some time. There is a nice article
of tribute about Keith and his wife
Janet ("Jean") on The Scripps Research Institute website."
