We are so proud of you both! Nicole Kinsey
of Zephyr Arabians has sent us word
that she and Phlyrt (Symbah x Phobia by El Bahia) completed their first 50 Mile Endurance Ride on January 10th at Warner
Springs. And what a day it was! No wonder Nicole is so justifiably
proud of this wonderful CMK mare she bred and trained herself.
You can read the complete story of their Red Letter Day on the Zephyr
Arabians website: 2004
Warner Springs 50. Thanks Nicole for sharing such good news with us! (01/29/04)

Legendary Arabians gearing up for 2004 "It's a new year and we're gearing up
here at Legendary Arabians for the West
Coast's Arabian/Half Arabian Sport Horse Nationals
in September 2004. We plan to attend, but which horses we have there is still up in the
air!!!
Aul Magic+/ has been in quarantine since September having semen frozen for overseas export
and future use here in the U.S. We now have frozen semen ready to ship to South Africa,
the EU approved countries, Australia and New Zealand. The semen was 'positively' tested
on a mare this fall, so it's good to go!!! He'll be coming home in early February for
the breeding season to begin. He's gotten a bit overweight, so first on the agenda will
be getting him back in shape and under saddle again.
We also have new to the ranch an OSB Trakehner mare that will be bred to Magic this spring
for an 2005 foal. We're really excited about this one. She's a beautiful black bay 17+
hand mare that was bred by Hubertus Poll and imported to the U.S. as a weanling. For
those of you familiar with Trak lines, she is by Nandino and out of the well known mare
Guayana, dam of at least two approved stallions.
We have only two foals due at the ranch this spring, both are purebred Arabians and
should make excellent sport horse prospects. We have others for sale that are
older and started under saddle, along with requests from clients whose needs we are unable to
fulfill at this time. We also need some help at the ranch. Please take a look at our ads
in the Help Wanted, Horses for Sale,
and Horses Wanted sections of the Classified Ads.
We would love to hear from all of you or better yet, stop by if you're ever in
the area. The best days to have me at the ranch are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but you're welcome anytime."

Sharon and Betsy honored as Guest Speakers At a recent
meeting of the Arabian Horse Association of San Fernando Valley, Sharon
Byford-Ruth and
Betsy Teeter of Legendary Arabians
appeared as this AHA
club's Guest Speakers on the Topic of Showing Sport Horses. Sharon
writes: "There was a fair turnout (15-20 people, I believe)
and all seemed interested in learning more about CMK Arabian Sport
Horses and showing them in hand. Most were from the Arabian show
world (vs. open showing); perhaps one or two of those people may
end up showing In Hand at the
Sport Horse
Nationals this year. We are so proud of Aul Magic+/ for lighting the
way."

Greener Pastures
I wanted to let you all know that Otto
Hackel had to have his stallion Phyllis Selection (Aurab
x Diens) put down this afternoon. "See" had been deteriorating all
through the summer and fall. As you may all recall, "See" has had
problems with his left rear leg for many years... ever since a training
injury as a young stallion where his sesamoid bone was broken. This last
summer and fall he has had increasing difficulty with this leg with substantial
weight loss through his hips. We did what we could to keep him comfortable...
special feed, Bute for pain, and heat lamps through this fall in his stall.
Today he laid down and after several hours of several people trying to
get him up and failing... the decision was made to put him down. A very sad
day here at the ranch. We all loved the guy very much.
As you may recall, "See" was one of the last Aurab sons.
"See" had a wonderfully sweet disposition and sired some wonderful
performance horses. When excited by a mare, he was very regal and beautiful...
dark bay with little tippy ears and a beautifully intelligent face.
His stall is the first you see at the barn coming up the driveway...
it will seem quite empty now. We will all greatly miss him.

Sad News to Report I regret to inform everyone of the death of
our very good friend and neighbor Helen McCoy of McCoy's
Arabians in Chino (Hills), California over the weekend. She was like one
of our family members and things just won't be the same without her
around. All will miss her.

OB
Haat Lipz
continues to amaze us! Sandy
Obermeyer of Obermeyer Performance
Arabians has sent us this photo of Bill Obermeyer and their home-bred mare OB
Haat Lipz (Blitzen of Pico x Arribas Pride) displaying her talents as a Team Sorting horse.
Now this is a mare to believe in! When Sandy is not using her for Search
and Rescue duties with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department,
Bill Obermeyer jumps aboard and rides her in parades and for his
play-time pal with his cowboy buddies doing Team Gate Sorting ~ work she
seems to enjoy as much as her Dressage Class win at The Scottsdale Show
2001. What a good girl and outstanding
representative of CMK Breeding! (11/26/03)
