OB Haat Lipz to the
Rescue
|
"I'm hoping you will enjoy this photo of Captain Obermeyer and OB
Haat Lipz of the San Luis Obispo Sheriff Posse taking a quick breather on a Search and Rescue for two missing persons at Montana
De Oro State Park in Los Osos, CA on February 5th. The search started at 5:30 AM and the
individuals were found at 11:48 AM, cold but otherwise in fair condition.
They had been lost since the previous day. Of interest is the halter
our horse is wearing which has snap bit attachments and the lead rope which has
a quick release that goes around the neck so that we can dismount and lead a horse
quickly."

March 6, 2005:
Maynesboro at The McCoy (See update above!)
|
The Arabian Horse Association of Southern California cordially
invites you, your family, and your friends to attend their meeting at The McCoy Equestrian
Center, Chino Hills, California, on March 6, 2005.
Featured Guest Speaker for this event will be SoCal CMK's very own
Sharon Byford-Ruth.
Sharon first became interested in the Maynesboro
Arabian Stud when she was Director of the Arabian Horse
Owners Foundation, which maintains the Arabian horse
library formerly owned by William Robinson (W.R.) Brown.
Among the items in the library are the ranch papers
from the Maynesboro Stud (the "M" in our CMK).
Many years ago, Sharon was asked to research and write a
history of the Maynesboro Stud. At the beginning of
her search for information about Brown and his horses,
she was able to interview many of W.R. Brown's
children, as well as review letters and diaries by
people like Wilfrid Scawen Blunt, from whom Brown
purchased many of Lady Anne Blunt's horses upon her
death.
W.R. Brown was President of the Arabian Horse Club of
America for many years. He also helped establish the
Arabian as an endurance horse by helping conduct many
of the first endurance rides held in America, which
were often won by his Arabians and part-Arabians.
Brown is the author of The Horse of the Desert, which
features a trip he made to the desert in the 1920s. He
imported Arabian horses from England, France and
Egypt.
W.R. Brown sold important breeding horses to William Randolph
Hearst, W. K. Kellogg, and General Dickinson, some of
whom made invaluable contributions to our modern CMK
horses. Without the horses that Brown chose and bred,
our modern CMK Arabian horses would be quite different.
Sharon Byford-Ruth is a freelance writer whose
articles have appeared in many horse magazines over a
period of forty years. A story by her appears in
Chicken Soup for the Horse Lover's Soul, published in
2004. Her book, The Arabian: A Guide for Owners, is
being updated and a revised edition will be out later
this year. Sharon co-owns the champion stallion Aul Magic+/ and
breeds CMK horses (with her business partner, Betsy Teeter) at Legendary Arabians in Caliente, California.
She also operates an online book store which sells
books about Arabian horses at Book
Stall.
Although her book about the Maynesboro Stud of
W.R. Brown is still being completed and will not be
available until next year, Sharon has agreed to give us a preview of the history
and influence of W.R. Brown's Maynesboro Stud at the
March 6th meeting of the Arabian Horse Association. Time is 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Luncheon will be served.
Cost: $5.00. For reservations
call Janet Stevenson 909-593-3697 by March 4th. For more
information on this exciting upcoming event, contact Melissa
Paul. (02/12/04)

all best of luck and good fortune in their new location. Nicole will be campaigning
